One of the most important applications to run on your PC is your anti-virus and firewall protection.  Funding software can be a great burden to many missionaries. However there are some really great FREE options below. 

Web Site Building Software

PHP Tutorial: Download zip containing a pdf e-book "PhpTutorial" AND sample php templates. Easy way to create a website with the ability of changing an included file to change header, footer, menus, other items. These changes would then be seen in all pages in website.

Anti-Virus Protection

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition:
On their site they plainly state they are not for non-profits but for personal use only.  Use your judgment on this.

Anti-vir:
Free anti-virus software for Windows. Detects and removes more than 50,000 viruses. Free support.

Virus scanner and removal tool

Panda ActiveScan:
This free a tool for detecting and eliminating viruses from your computer. Installs as an ActiveX control in your Web browser (Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher).

Firewall Protection

Sygate:
Free personal firewall to protect a single computer. For Windows 95OSR2/98/NT/2000.

Kerio Limited free edition:
For home users, Kerio Personal Firewall 4 is available in two flavors - the full edition and the limited free edition.

Zone Alarm:
Free basic PC desktop firewall.

Spyware Protection

Ad-Aware:
Ad-Aware is designed to provide advanced protection from known Data-mining, aggressive advertising, Parasites, Scumware, selected traditional Trojans, Dialers, Malware, Browser hijackers, and tracking components. With the release of Ad-Aware SE Personal edition, Lavasoft takes the fight against Spyware to the next level.

Spybot - Search & Destroy:
Spybot - Search & Destroy can detect and remove spyware of different kinds from your computer. Spyware is a relatively new kind of threat that common anti-virus applications do not yet cover. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you didn't intentionally install, if your browser crashes, or if you browser start page has changed without your knowing, you most probably have spyware. But even if you don't see anything, you may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging that is silently tracking your surfing behavior to create a marketing profile of you that will be sold to advertisement companies. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm in trying to see if something snooped into your computer, too :)

PDF Converter

File Compression Tool

Data Backup Tool

Back2zip:
A great little lightweight backup tool. Just select the folders you want to keep backed up and select a destination location for the backup archive and Back2zip will automatically keep a continuously updated daily backup. (You should set it to refresh the backup every ten minutes or so.) You can also choose to keep several day's archives of the daily backups. Unlike many backup programs, this one does not put much load on your CPU so you will almost never notice it's working at all. It runs quietly in the application tray.
