Church #1
After finishing language school in Fortaleza the Latham
family moved to Mossoro, Rio Grande do Norte (Northeast
Brazil). This city was only 350 miles south of the equator and
well water was 155 degrees. It did not rain the last two years
of their ministry in Mossoro.
Tom was invited to pastor a church which was closed. After
fixing the building, the Latham's began services. The most
serious problem was bats flying around during the services.
All the tiles had to be removed from the roof to get rid of
the bats.
After three years of evangelism and training, the church was
turned over to a national pastor in 1980. After 24 years they
are still doing well with about 200 in attendance.
This lady in our #1 church said, "Thank you for bringing
me to Christ in 1980. I have been in this church for 24 years
and brought my children up in the Lord here." |
